3rd Largest US Transit System Poised for Strike: Here’s Who May Be Affected

NJ Transit engineers are preparing to get out of the job on Friday amid continuous negotiations between their federation and the huge passenger agency, which is likely to disrupt the daily movements of about 350,000 passengers working in New Jersey and New York City.
Context
NJ Transit is the third largest transit system in the country and runs buses and trains throughout the state and New York City.
According to Associated Press, the agency runs nearly one million flights every day of the week. A potential rail strike is also waving against the backdrop of the massive disturbances at the Newark Liberty International Airport, where dozens of flights have been delayed or canceled due to the construction of the runway, radar interruption and a significant shortage of air traffic monitors.

NJ transit holds talks with the Muslim Brotherhood for the engineers and train (BLE) on workers’ demands to obtain higher wages and improved working conditions.
According to AP, the Federation says that its members receive an average salary of $ 113,000 and press the CEO of NJ Transit Kris Kolluri to agree to an increase to $ 170,000.
But the agency’s executives objected to this claim, saying that its engineers earn a total of $ 135,000 a year, as the highest owners received more than $ 200,000.
Plate said that its members are ready to get out of the job at 12:01 am on Friday if a deal is not reached by that time.
Who can be affected by the strike?
NJ Transit Commust trains between North Jersey and Penn Station in New York City as well as providing a service to Newark Airport.
The agency is already preparing for the disturbances as a result of withdrawal, saying that it plans to increase its bus services by adding “very limited” accommodations to the buses to the passengers to New York.
When developing its emergency plans, its resources focused on “the largest segment of the Railway Customer Base-more than 70,000 customers residing in New York, including customers who move from NJ Transit Rail to Path Trains at Hoboken Terminal and Newark Penn.”
The Passenger Agency also said that it will work with private transport companies to operate its bus service from regional sites during peak transportation times on the week.
However, officials have warned that buses will not be able to deal anywhere near the same number of passengers – about 20 percent of the current number of railways – and urge those who can work away from a distance to do so in the event of a blow.
NJ Transit 100,000 told the railway client that they should ride the amtrak and Path trains if the strike begins, adding that the passengers can take the phrase or use the light railway.
Shakira and Beyoncé lovers may already feel the effects of strike plans. On Monday, NJ Transit announced that it will not run bus or railway service to the Shakira parties, to be held on Thursday and Friday. It was not yet clear whether the agency would provide a service for Beyonce’s parties to be held from May 22 to May 29 at Metlife.

I am heading to a call now, to call all hand, [on] Exactly what will appear on Thursday night in the middle of the night, if this is what comes to. “
Tom Haas, General President of Lent, told a press conference on Friday: “We are not looking for anything more than equal wage for equal work, just for his constant rejection by New Jersey Transit. New Jersey Transit engineers want to maintain movement, but the simple fact is that trains do not work without engineers.”
Colory said in a statement: “I cannot continue to give the left and right money to solve a problem. All this is due to, who will pay for this? The money does not grow on trees.”
“” “I think it will be difficult for the state. I think it will be difficult for the passengers and that the presence of the situation at the Newark Airport is already a disaster.”
What happens after that
NJ Transit train engineers will officially strike at 12:01 am on Friday, unless an agreement is reached in advance.
The agency published information about its emergency plans in the event of a strike, saying: “NJ Transit strongly encourages all those who can work from home to do this and limit the travel on NJ Transit for only basic purposes.”
