Did you solve it? Sexy maths | Mathematics
Earlier today, gases related to preliminary numbers – in particular 3, 7 and 11. Primary numbers on the cultural radar for this month thanks to the Apple TV+ Thriller Prime Target, which starred with Minung Do Gore Leo Woodal (above)
Here they are again with solutions.
1. First power
Without using a calculator, what is the last number 3 to the strength of a million, i.e. 31,000,000?
solution: 1
When 3 multiplies on its own, the final number of the answer revolves through the 3, 9, 7 and 1 numbers. Since the million is divided into four, the final number from 3 to a million is 1.
2. 7-Eleven
The shopper enters a small store and buys four elements. The treasurer says that the total is 7.11 pounds.
‘How funny, the shopper says. “This is the name of the store.”
‘“What is funny also is that I hit the prices of the four elements together,” says treasurer.
“Isn’t it supposed to add the elements together?” The shopper responds.
“You can do if you like – the total is exactly the same.”
What are the prices of elements?
The solution £3.16, 1.25 pounds, 1.20 pounds and 1.50 pounds
Leave the prices A, b, c and D. Then we know
[1] A + B + C + D = 7.11
[2] Axbxcxd = ABCD = 7.11
We can assume that the prices in the store are in pound and penny, so let us double each of them by 100 to get rid of the decimal point.
[3] 100a + 100B + 100c + 100d = 711
[4] 100ax 100Bx 100CX 100D = 100,000 abcd = 711,000,000
To keep things elegant, let = 100AB = 100B, Etc., so that we can reformulate the above.
[3] A + B + C + D = 711
[4] ABCD = 711,000,000
We need to solve these two equations, and do so by finding the initial factors of 711 million. ((In the position Where I set the puzzle, I made it clear that all numbers can be divided into their main component numbers.)
The main factor of 711 million is 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 3 x 3 x 5 x 5 x 5 x 5 x 5 x 79 Use this site To find major factors)
Now we are working on any of these main factors that form A, B, C and D.
You can do this through experience and error, which can take a long time, so I gave a hint that 3.16 pounds was a solution. This corresponds to 316 (since we double the prices by 100). The initial factors of 316 are 79 x 2 x 2. So let’s say A = 79 x 2 x 2.
A hint also said that the other three prices are divided into 5p. Thus, we know that 5 is the B fa, and D. We also know [3] That B + C + D = 395.
By playing with the initial numbers in our worker, we get B = 5 x 5 x 5 = 125, C = 5 x 3 x 2 x 2 = 120, and D = 5 x 5 x 5 x 3 x 2 = 150. Prices 1.25 pounds £ And 1.20 pounds and 1.50 pounds. Check them if you do not believe me! They add up and strike to 7.11 pounds.
What is great in this puzzle is not much solution, but the fact that it is fun to find such precious gemstones in a global brand.
I hope you enjoyed mystery, I will return within two weeks.
Thanks to Steve Thompson, who suggested the first puzzle, and the Apple TV+public relations team.
I have prepared a mystery here on Mondays since 2015. I have always been aware of the wonderful puzzles. If you want one suggestion, Send me.
