Oakland Roots hire ex-U.S. midfielder Benny Feilhaber as coach

Former US team midfielder Beni Villanpea was appointed Benny on Monday as a coach of the Oakland Championship in the United Nations Football Championship.

Coach Javin Glenon was expelled earlier on Monday after the team opened its league schedule with three wins, seven losses and one tie. The roots also lost their opening match in the United States Open to Tacoma in the third round.

The 40-year-old Feilhaber scored two goals in 44 international matches from 2007-17 and was part of the American team in the 2010 World Cup, as it appeared in three games as a substitute.

He broke his broken goal in a shot of 22 yards a tie in the 73rd minute and raised the United States over Mexico 2-1 in the Concacaf Gold 2007 Cup final.

Welhaber was born in Brazil and graduated from the University of California in Los Angeles in Hamburg, Derby, Aarhus, New England, Kondas City and LAFC during his career in the club from 2006 to 2006.

Since his retirement as a player, he was an assistant coach at the University of California in Los Angeles, Kansas City Under -17 coach and a key coach for Sporting KC II at MLS Next Pro at the third level.

Feilhaber came out of retirement to play in Umaha fourth degree when he beat Sporting Kc II by 2-1 in the first round of the open cup on March 19, and formed a penalty kick in a 2-1 loss to Union omaha in the second round on April 2.
