‘I ran 1,830 miles in these, and they’re still going strong’: trail running essentials (and what to skip) | Running

PAsphalt has a lot of benefits: improving fitness, creating the space of the head and providing a great sense of achievement while you are stumbling through the door and leaks into the sofa. Trail Running is a different monster, and provides all the positives themselves with different challenges and possibly more rewards.

I have operated tracks for nearly two decades, from New Forest to the sharp technical tracks around Mont Blanc, and running everything from a course of 10 km to 100 miles. It allows me to completely cancel it, and take advantage of the mental health benefits to spend time in nature and get a double dose of strength and heart.

Any operating you can take you out of the airport runway to non -packed surfaces “beating the corridors”. This can be from any of the fields and dirt paths in your local garden to forest paths, coastal and tax coastal paths or mountainous terrain. These adventures test your mind and body, fight unequal terrain, height changes and obstacles such as rocks, roots and tables.

Good news: You do not need a lot of specialized tools to take off on off -road. But some important elements can make life much easier.

Here is my brief list of running paths that you need to enjoy miles in the wilderness. From the most important element ever – your running shoes.

The jackets tend to be decent and water resistant until it is expensive, but it is a good investment. For many longer corridors, they are mandatory. Look for a recorded layer jacket and a higher hydrostatic head classification and a good breathing degree. But also think about waterproof pockets, suitable covers, wind -resistant cuffs, and how small they can pack them.

Three jackets put a mark in most of these boxes are the North Face Summit Superior Futurelight, Inov8 Stormshell FZ V2 and Montane Minimus Lite. Adidas Terrex Xperior Climabroof has not been completely shown, but great for shorter and regular trips.

For long days on the corridors, slap the P20 SPF50+. I used it to repel the desert sun while running the Dis Spez Marathon in 2015. It is completely waterproof and sweat, so do not leak into your eyes and hinder your vision in the middle of the range. The spray bottle makes the app free of chaos. One of the liberal paint from all the wicked of the sun protects for 10 hours.

The anti -siphone oil

2TOMS Sportshield Anti-Carafing Roll Roll on

Whatever the terrain you eat, being safe from the healer is important. But the risk of friction is raised by running tracks with a package and heavier shoes. There are a lot of running anti -run -running solutions, and a good old petroleum jelly makes a function. But go to 2toms sportshield.

This style style oil provides a reliable barrier against unwanted friction burns. It is easy to apply to all areas at risk-nipples and thighs, under weapons-even the most difficult to reach angles and Kurds. It is relatively free, and it is easily covered, and one application continues throughout the day. The tube is really carried, too, if you need to take it with you.

This may seem to be an exaggeration, but adherence to one of these can be in your packages as providing a literal life if you find yourself in an unexpected emergency. If you are stuck in the middle of anywhere, unable to move, with a cold preparation quickly, this packaging chips will provide a crucial backpack; They will return up to 90 % of the body temperature to help repel decrease in body temperature. Survival bags are more likely to protect you, allowing you to climb into the same as a sleeping bag. It is also another popular piece of the mandatory race group.

Do not care about …

Walking columns

The coach once told me that the pillars of walking were for people with weak legs. I do not fully subscribe to this spirit, but you only open the real value of the trips columns if you use it properly. This comes with a lot of practice, and a very slope learning curve like the hills you are trying to tame. They are complications that most contestants in beginners do not need.

Gore Tex shoes

The brands are increasingly offering the famous Gore-Tex versions of the famous running shoes that enhance water resistance. If you regularly treat longer runs in wet conditions in Wilder, they will have a place ever, but they come to installment. For most new contestants, this level of water insulation is not necessary. Save your money at a later time, say when you were lured in the Ultra Trail Mid-Winter.
