Labour needs to make its priorities clear to everyone | Politics

“The government has not yet clarified Britain’s type that it tries to create.”Rachel Reeves seized her moment – whatever the future that brings). He has a point, Rachel Reeves did not respond completely. It is a vision, and the ability to connect it. It comes to describing what work is, in general, along with the list of political deliveries. Growth is important, but only as a means, not an end. “Securonomics” is interesting, but it has no general resonance.

If people are now not sure what exhaustion This is symbolized, because it is because the task of ideological self -definition has been neglected. This is in contrast to 1997, which was preceded by the re -thinking process that produced a new work and “the third road”. Something similar is needed now. There is a rich tradition of social democratic thinking in Britain to benefit from it, including the RH Tawney argument to reach what was called “the means of civilization” as a basis for common culture.

The pragmatism is of value, but it is not enough. An argument around the three columns of security, opportunities and society must be built that would bring together everything the government is trying to do, and the type of Britain that it wants to create. In a way that people may understand.

I agree with Dhananjayan Sriskandarajah that focusing on investment alone will not work (Did Rachel Reeves make the right options? Our board responds to spending, June 11). The new public investments are meaningless if what is already funded.

After years of austerity, the fastest and most errors of raising the gross domestic product and improving public services are to ensure that we are aware of the full potential of what we already have. A top priority should be to reduce financial pressure on those who provide services, especially local authorities who suffer from financial distress. This will provide a wide and higher economic growth, unlike the main customization of investment funds for huge projects that will take decades to provide results.

Entrepreneurs want to live and invest in safe areas in good health and education, well -maintained methods and enjoyable amenities. Correctly funded local authorities can encourage higher private investments by submitting this. Unfortunately, it is expected that they will implement expensive and destroyed reorganization and find money to pay the minimum wage and national insurance with a settlement that involves a reduction in financing. Work needs to think again.

According to Rashil Reeves, NHS was “protected” and will receive “3 % increase in its budget” (Spending 2025: Who are the winners and losers? June 11). But will that be in practice? At a recent meeting with the CEO of the University of Nutingham Hospital Fund, we told us that he was directed to obtain 97 million pounds of discounts in this fiscal year. This means that it leads to the loss of about 750 jobs and the closure of some wings.

Moreover, these huge cuts are the fund’s contribution to the largest allocations imposed on the integrated care council for our boycott: a reduction of 280 million pounds in providing all local health services. So, what is protection and 3 % increase, or huge discounts?
