Rural health EHR sharing for a win-win

LAS VEGAS – Parkview Health in Northeast Indiana has created a Rural patients in 23 provinces to take advantage of a “single care story”, according to David Win, Vice President of Parkvief Community Connect.

The HimssS25 World Conference and Exhibition Show focused on the lessons learned 13 years after the growth of a “business company”.

The non -profit healthcare organization has created a program to share the EHR system (EHR) provides web -backed up to EPIC in more than 400 rural hospitals and clinics.

“We want them not only alive, but we want them to flourish.” Himss25 Education session here.

“We just have to make sure that we do not lose any money when we do it.”

By hosting the full EHR, the 1300 non -profit health system deals with all the general expenses that will come.

“Only our customers should bear a small part of this burden,” he told those present interested in learning how to bridge the rural gap, improve access, population health and patient experiences in their areas.

He pointed out that rural hospitals and clinics face several factors that limit the prices that prevent them from reaching high -quality EHRS, from the minimum resources and technology to geographical isolation and financial burdens.

Parkvief Epic was chosen in 2011 for EHR, and by 2013 the Board of Directors decided that creating an EHR program could improve the continuity of care, population health and more across the region.

Parkview clients can access their safe data and benefit from reporting via a common system. Wayne said that their patients also like to be able to schedule all their appointments and access their health information in one place.

But the EHR sharing, or the transformation into a complete and comprehensive common one, is not a small jump from the transformation of any of the institution.

Win said: “If you have done these applications before, you know it is a huge task for these community hospitals.”

“Not only does EHR decrease. Once it enters, things will change for these people. We try to make this process a positive experience as possible.

“The conversion and archiving is in fact a huge element to achieve this,” he said.

For example, when a rural system signs and the data begins to move – either by third or manually – current claims do not move.

Clinically, the Rural Health Care will move away from an old system as soon as they are operated, but the claims continue until they are completed, with new claims in the epic and any required -to -marital reports at the end of the back.

“I am lucky enough to have many different options when it comes to working with the tools that we will use,” said Wayne.

“But we are trying to choose sellers that we can continue working with an understanding of what we are doing-who want to help us get low-cost entry for this.”

He pointed out that rural customers have data in “all different formats, storage and archiving.”

“When we transfer things in a separate way from the old system to an epic, we bring the documents of the Anti -desertification agreement on the immediately. This is the easiest thing to do, and there are some other elements,” clearer.

EPIC provides Parkview tools to extract customer data extract, but health care institutions must determine the amount of information needed, and if some data should be archived in active storage for image management and documents.

Wayne said that some customers may choose manual extraction, and Parkview will help them to plan how this happens.

After that, there may be improvements that customers may want to do.

“The only thing that we have between us as an agreement is the fact that we are sharing EHR,” explained Wayne. “That’s all. Everything about work becomes a strict work. They are independent.”

During the operation and then, Parkview provides resources and training, and supports its customers if there is a breach of data, and is consulted about improvements.

“We want to make sure that we meet the needs of the organization,” Wayne said.

EHR’s viewing pricing for the health system is very important, as ParkView teams – like it and financing – support the program.

The tasks of the workforce associated with the management of the program have grown the size of its customer base.

“You can imagine the auditors department and entitlements to finance to see what we are doing. I think I have told that day,” one of these days, Dave, you will have to employ your people who work for them. “But I have to pay for them.”

“It really creates a more burden. The larger we go, the more difficult it is.”
