Los Alamitos wins Southern Section Division 1 boys’ basketball title

Los Olitus’s full press helped produce 21 transformations, and Griffins won 63-60 over Mira Costa in the basketball championship in the southern section on Saturday in Toyota Arena, Ontario.

Wesley Trevino, who led Griffins with 15 points, scored a basket with slightly more than two minutes to advance 60-57. Mira Costa had opportunities to approach but couldn’t convert on open shots. Trent Minter got 14 points and 11 rebounds, Tyler Lopez 13 points and Samuri Gennis ended with 10 points. Eneasi Pialini Mira Costa led 17 points.

“I am proud of my team,” coach Nate Berger said in his victory in the first title of Griffins since 2007 when he was a backup player in Los Olitus.

“The best way,” he said about winning this year’s title compared to winning when he was a player. “I had nothing to do with that except to be the seventeenth man.”

Fairmont Prep 64, Pacifica Christian 60: Oliver Jones went at eight for eight in the free throw line in the last seconds of the organization and additional work to present the 2AA championship to Fairmont Preparatory. David Abson was 20 points and 15 rebounds. EJ Spillman Pacifica Christian led with 29 points.

Aquinas 59, Saint Dimas 41: Malachi Jones ended with 17 points to lead Aquini in the 3A Championship match.

Corona Santiago 64, Ramona 49: Jordan de la Mora won 28 points in the 4AA Championship.

Corona 5, Summit 0: The number 1 leopards received eight passes and did not walk in five roles from Seth Hernandez. Anthony Murphy, Joshua Sur and Billy Carlson hit at home.
