Forget the face recognition – there can be a new way to get to know you. The researchers have discovered that we all seem to have a “respiratory imprint”, a unique way of breathing that can revolutionize how to diagnose and treat a different treatment health Conditions, from obesity to depression.
The penetration comes from Time Soroka At the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel and its colleagues, who have developed a wearing device that picks up the nuances of how to breathe.
“this [work] arousing. It addresses many long questions about how respiratory signs are related to health and mental condition – all in one working group. ” Torben NotoWho did not participate in the research, in OSMO in New York, an Amnesty International company aimed at giving computers a feeling of smell.
The idea that breathing patterns contain healthy information that is not new – the work that dates back to the fifties in this regard. But without a device that can be worn, it can record nasal breathing data when someone moves, the search was limited to the data collected from hospital patients, who tend to monitor their breathing for less than an hour.
To overcome this, Soroka and her colleagues invented a device that can be worn and gave it 97 people who brought it for 24 hours. Then they trained an algorithm to identify unique groups of 24 teachers-everything from the size of the air that breathes to the number of times the breathing occurred. The algorithm can determine the participants almost 97 percent, and this signature remained stable over a period of two years follow -up.
However, “do not expect you to have a nasal air flow registration next time you go to the bank,” the team member says Nam SobilAlso at the Fayzman Institute. He says that the goal is not to use the device for vital measurements, but rather to cancel valuable health information.
For example, a person’s body mass index (BMI) can be predicted through a group of parameters of the nose cycle, which is the rhythm in which the whole nose alternates between being more or less open than the other.
This cycle governs the friendly nervous system balance, which is the body to respond to “fighting or flying”, and the uncomfortable system, which calms the body, says SoBel. “So by measuring the air flow in your nose, you are already gaining a degree of sympathetic excitement, and this appears to be an indicator of the body mass index.”
This raises interesting possibility, says Sobel: Instead of weight gain that causes breathing changes, can breathing patterns affect weight? He says: “If this is true, we will find the breathing pattern that makes you thin and our entire group will retire and advance directly on an island,” he says.
Respiratory data also revealed a relationship between breathing aspects and levels anxiety Symptoms of depression. People with high levels of symptoms of depression have been inhaled faster, for example.
The team is now looking if breathing patterns already cause these symptoms, to see if they can be used to diagnose some common Mental health Conditions, which can then be treated through breathing exercises.
Nuto, who reached 24 metrics used by the team to measure different aspects of breathing. The device can also help individuals to identify when their breathing deviates from normal. “She has the ability to have a major impact on human health,” says Noto.
