‘Bonjour Tristesse’ review: Chloë Sevigny complicates remake

Have a mixture of teenage school of teenager in adolescence and light air of French rivier explosive popularity Francois SaganThe 1954 novel “Bonjour Tristsse”, written when the author was a teenager. Auto Bremenger adapts to 1958, with the advanced story with Jean Seburg, Deborah Kiir and David Nevin-in addition to the experimental use of both the Telecolor and the monochromatic-only burning its attractiveness, inspiring the new French wave to boot. Jean -Luc Godard once said that he could melt from the snapshot of this last movie to the opening of a “bright” transitional text: “After three years.”

Despite six decades, though, can a new movie from Sagan’s summer story capture the same lush plots? In the case of Canadian writer and director Durga Chew-Bose, who consists with confidence for the first time, the answer is yes, not completely. Some backgrounds and scenarios are strong enough to maintain their hot and ridiculous attractiveness, and this “Bonjour Trissse”, with the dreamer coastal luxury, is well used this familiarity because it mixes the old magic with modern details.

But in a passion for chewing Boss with excavation in a deeper way in the conditions in which the cruelty that changes the life of the little girl is supported, there is excessive superiority of the motivation, and the need to break the elegant surface of the elegant bourgeois characters with self -reflection. She finally undermined a narration that was the strongest suit that was always a beacon.

Under the most obvious sky and against the sparkling water, Cécile (Lily Mcinerny) spends a golden summer, spending a fun time with her charming father, handsome, Claes Bang, and his cold -tender girl (naivety Harson) in Villa, while enjoying the local formation,

Dynamic transformations with unexpected arrival now (Chloe Sevini), A fragile fashion designer and a dear friend of the deceased Sisel. Through her withdrawn hair, cultivated shirts and long skirts, tone with friendly cécile after aunt, it brings the refrigerated ripening, a type of throat. But also, in the revival of a sleeping proximity between Ann and Raymond, there is an imminent future that Cecil was not ready for. Can you prevent this from happening and maintaining the summer of her naughty?

The novel and Preminger movie relied on the device that the protagonist was looking at the huge events from the perspective of this title, so the novel Boss is currently, acceptable by Maximilian Pittner images that were recruited, looks like a reward at first. The director also tends well to shots during our direction without a position, while choosing music, led by Leslie Barber, is a true set of romance and depression.

But when the Boss’s chewing reaches the interior with the Hyperraware dialogue (it is applied democratically to each character), something is lost. “She imagines how she looks to us,” Elsa comments on Raymond early while noticing his daughter like a sample. “Your silence is different – I am not in it,” Cisel says to her father. These are not lines, they look like actor notes on how to run something without words.

It seems as if everyone is an emerging essay, which makes the situation that is circulating on recklessness and illusion more difficult to swallow it. Everyone looks very smart that it is not vulnerable to error, although Sevigny is approaching, embodying someone in an unstable state of emotional ability, whose clear intelligence hides unannounced wounds.

There are ways to expose the weaknesses of the wise and/or early when moving into matters in the heart. (Éric Rohmer has many precise examples). But the Chew-Bose is ultimately feeling more clinical than the revelation. One can appreciate the effort behind this “Bonjour Tristsse” without necessarily feeling its disorders.
