Connecticut man gets 33 years in prison for stray-bullet killing of Olympian’s mother

Waterbury, Contecticut – A man in Connecticut was sentenced to 33 years in prison on Tuesday Correct killing From the mother of the Olympic player Puerto Rico.

Jasper Green23, from New Haveen, was one of three men accused of the death of Mabel Martinez Antongori on April 9, 2022. The 56 -year -old was sewing at her home in Waterbury, about 30 miles southwest of Hartford, when a bullet flew and hit her in the head.

The daughter of Martinez Antongorgi, Yarmar Mercado Martinez, has competed for the family’s original Portorico to shoot the gun in the Olympic Games in 2016, 2021 and 2024. She was in Brazil in another competition when her mother was killed.

Green acknowledged that he was guilty of killing in February. His lawyer did not immediately respond to an email seeking a comment after the verdict on Tuesday at the Waterbury Supreme Court.

According to the court certificate, the deadly shooting arose from a dispute, and one of the suspects, Franklin Robinson, was with a man who said hello to his girlfriend. Robinson, Green and another man, shot a parked car on Martinez Antongorgi Street, believing that the man was inside. A bullet went to Martinez Antongiorgi. He was injured, but survived.

The Robinson jury was convicted of killing and other charges in 2023 and was later sentenced to 90 years in prison.

The third suspect, Levy Brook, acknowledged that he was not guilty of multiple charges in the case, including killing, and is waiting for trial.

At the time of her mother’s death, Mercado Martinez expressed regret in social media publications that she “could not even say goodbye.”

“Why are you? Why is this way?” I wrote. “I was sitting in sewing your little home, as I always did.”

Martinez Antongiorgi and her husband have moved for more than 30 years, John Lewis, to Waterbury from Puerto Rico after a few years after the American region of Hurricane Maria, the destroyer of 2017. At the time of her death, they made an appointment to renew their wedding promises, and their daughter wrote at that time.
