In February, this idea appeared as eight in the puzzle of Tamp:

The answer is the hypothesis. The following week, the Guardian received This charming message:

It was not only eight to the bottom: the entire puzzle was a birthday greeting with the references all the time. I edited the Tramp puzzle in November and I was looking forward to its appearance.
