Delphine Ernotte Cunci On The Future Of Public Media

Exclusive: Delphine Ernotte Cunci He has a unique vision of the TV scene in Europe as head of the European Broadcasting Union and CEO of French giant Pubcaster France France Teleif.

the EBU It is an alliance of Pubcaster in Europe. It collectively deals with the rights negotiations of the events, including the Olympic Games, runs the European song competition, and pressure pressure on behalf of members with senior politicians in Europe. It also collects its membership in chewing everything from technology and AI to financing questions.

The deadline managed to get some time in Ernotte Cunci notes to conduct an exclusive interview. Before giving a major word (with the France Hat Televishat) on) in ObsessionIt was shown on explicit TV on European TV. EBU’s president addressed everything, from the strength of the banners to the role of EBU when one of its number, Ukraine, is in war, and why the independent media is the cornerstone of democracy.

As a side observation, EBU prefers to formulate the most modern Media Service Media (PSM) over broadcasting public service abroad “to capture the fact that its members do more than just a TV.

The deadline: How does the role of the media in public service change during times of crisis and uncertainty?

Ernotte Cunci: Our role is the most important in times of crisis. It is clear that the uncertainty [at the moment] We do not know what will happen tomorrow or the next day tomorrow. I think our mission is to stand by our societies, our people. Today, we have a strong link with our fans.

For example, in France, every week, 80 % of the population comes to see us on linear TV or on our platform. We are here to entertain, we are here for the news, we are here in everything in the daily life of people. This link is our main assets in these very difficult times. We need to stand by people by providing independent and reliable news and investigating the investigative press. We do it in France, we are the only one who has a wonderful investigative team independent of every type of external pressure.

The deadline: It seems that pressure on public broadcasters – whether it is political or financial, or a mixture of Monday – is larger than ever?

Ernotte Cunci: Our CEO of Ukrainian Public TV at EBU. We know that they need weapons money, and even with a country in the war, Zelinski did not decide to reduce public television costs. But you are right. In the East, it comes to political pressure on PSM. In our western countries, it is more financing pressures.

The deadline: Ebu Top Brass in Brussels last week. Have you been able to persuade politicians of the need for the media in public service?

Ernotte Cunci: We seized the opportunity to see some commissioners and some members of the European Parliament. One of my main messages was about the support of independent public media because independence is a condition for confidence.

Independent public media is not just the issue of cultural sovereignty, it is not the issue of soft power. No, it is the issue of national security. It is the issue of power.

We see that Elon Musk decides half [agenda]So we should not be naive and believe that the media is only for entertainment. No, communication in the conflict is just essential like [real] arms.

The deadline: Public service broadcasters in Europe are often built on radio and/or written television, but the world has moved. How can it remain relevant?

Ernotte Cunci: In France, our first platform channel. It is not sin.

The only way to maintain this link for everyone is to distribute content to different basic channels and systems. Of course, we have the linear channel, and it is still very important today, but it will decrease, and the decline will be very fast to be honest.

The deadline: In a world of television connected to the user interface, applications and various digital software guides, the public service media will be lost in countless options.

Ernotte Cunci: In business in which all strength and scale in the United States and Asia are, the only way to balance this force is the organization. The European Union has done its work and the rules. The question today is, will we apply the rules?

The deadline: Are you worried about AI’s services, are learning models built using PSM content?

Ernotte Cunci: Artificial intelligence is an opportunity and threat. First, we need to prepare better criteria. The first question is, do we want to feed artificial intelligence? [machine] Without a reward for work? The answer is no. Do we want to feed artificial intelligence without any accuracy in the end and there is no relationship to our brand sources? The answer is no. We ask for the appropriate bonus and recognize our brands. We ask the sources to transfer them.

The deadline: Huge sums are invested in programming throughout Europe, but financing is under pressure. Does the original European content face a financing crisis?

Ernotte Cunci: Today I think the financing is great, but I am not sure that the trend is good. The likes of Netflix and Disney will not increase their investments because they now need to search for profitability. There was significant growth over the past years, and at the same time, the money invested in the public media was less, and it is difficult to do so [commercially-funded traditional] Media. I think the total amount invested in Europe on the content will not grow. But in my view, the public media should not reduce its investments in the content, because it is a key. The content, technology and distribution will be the three keywords for us in the future if we want to maintain this very strong link with our societies.

The deadline: The drama in particular has become so expensive that the largest broadcasters are struggling to finance large projects. What is the answer?

Ernotte Cunci: We have ways to deal with it. The first is to make the alliances between us in Europe, and France has made conditions with ZDF and others [through the European Alliance group] We assign high -value dramas. The second method is to conclude agreements with Netflix [and streamers]. We can find agreements with them and share rewards. We do not do the same job exactly, because we are free while they are not. There are many best ways that all people who invest in imagination can cooperate.

The deadline: Is a tax on international signs to support local content production is an applicable solution?

Ernotte Cunci: If they invest in drama locally, I support that. In France, for example, they adhere to investment, which is great. I don’t feel that Netflix and Disney are our main competitors. I think they are a very competitive sector and have their own issues. There are now many Svod platforms and they may see some restrictions with a future focus. It is not easy to achieve the profitability of these platforms, so there is a great room for cooperation.

Of course, they are very strong and strong, but they are not as strong as another type of media, social media platforms.

The deadline: Let’s talk about social media. How can you adopt Psm Social while alleviating the threats it provides?

Ernotte Cunci: We need to be on YouTube, we need to be on Tiktok, and we need to be on Instagram. There is no doubt about the use of these social media platforms and the presence on these social media platforms. But the fact is that social media is also a way to distribute fake news, to help foreign and bad effects, so it also enhances polarization activity in our society.

I think we will not be dominant as we were 30 years ago, but we see the difference today where the levels of confidence in the public media are very high. It is very bad on social media.

The deadline: What is the property of the future of media services in public service in Europe?

Ernotte Cunci: What the main concern is to be a reference point in the future. The audience may decrease as a whole, but if people are in mind: “Well, I read this on X and that is on Insta, but what does France say Telev in this event?” Then they come and achieve with us, I think we are in the right place.

The deadline: EUROVISION is a good example of the public media in Europe that collects, how can you harness and develop this, starting this year in Basel, Switzerland?

Ernotte Cunci: The Eurovision logo is “united with music”, and we need to be united. We have discussions on how to develop the brand because it is huge and is positive.

Place 2025 in a massive Basel. We have a new manager for Eurovision, Martin Green, and he adds a lot to what happened in previous years.
