Experience: I was the youngest person to ski alone to the south pole | Skiing

ZWandering in Norway, I heard a lot about polar exploration, including how Norwegian explorer Rield Undsen was the first person to reach the Antarctic in 1911. When I was a child I spent a lot of time in the open air – building fire, camping and skiing in the mountains.
The 14 -year -old, seven years before the Antarctic flight, decided that I wanted to become the youngest woman skiing through Greenland. I am just less than 5 feet, and people are still shocked because I am a polar explorer. When I became interested in skiing through Greenland, many guidelines were not unwilling to take me because I was very young. Then I met Lars Epsen, an experienced polar guide. Immediately, I felt that he respected my ambitions.
I had to go on an exploratory trip to FinnMark first – a boycott in northern Norway – to demonstrate that I am capable. The temperatures were dark and cold -temperatures decreased to -35 ° C, but I fell in love with them. Greenland itself took 28 days because we had very bad weather. At one point, we could not leave our tent for three days. When our guide went out to dig snow away from the walls of the tents, we had to carry it with a rope because the wind was very strong.
I was not afraid, which I think was a little naive. Others have told me the campaign since then that they were very afraid and wondering how to protect me if the tent exploded. I was fourteen years old. The oldest person was the evidence, who was 30 years old. I really grew up during that time. My mother says she does not remember me as a teenager.
On my fifteenth birthday, I decided to go to Antarctica. I did not tell my mom about my plans at first. I just told my father – he is gay, a great dreamer. My mother is more pragmatic.
Abi Lars called to provide logistical services. When I told my mother, I realized that I had already taken my mind. My parents are a wonderful role model – many parents tell their children to wait until they grow up to explore their dreams. But if you wait long, you will have other obligations.
When the campaign started last November, I was 21 years old. Pierre Heidan, the last person to break the record, was 26 years old when he arrived in January 2024.
The journey is 1,130 km: from the entrance to Hercules, on the edge of the Antarctica, to the geographical southern pole. I had to increase my physical weight by 10 % so that I could withdraw supplies on my field, so I have made a lot of strength training to acquire muscles. In two months, I left, I often ate two dinars, a lot of ice cream and chocolate candy. Because of my height, I found it difficult to find the Expedition that left me. but a company In London, I gave a perfect suit.
To prepare, I spoke to the former polar explorers, watched documentaries and read each book on this topic. To keep me busy on the trip, I had a podcast and music – my brother made me a playlist with everything from Norwegian concert music to the Beatles. However, the more you go, the more you enjoy the experience of silence.

In the same campaign, I was surprised by the presence of a lot of snow – Antarctica is a desert technically because it usually does not suffer from a lot of rain. In the most difficult days, I was in fresh snow until my knee and I could only go 9.5 km in 10 hours. That tested my elasticity. Then, when I reached the plateau 2800 meters above sea level, I really felt the thin and cold air that affects my lungs. In the end, my lung was painful, and I was struggled to breathe.
Before finishing, I did not allow myself to feel a lot, because I should focus. So when I arrived, after 54 days of launch, it was great to deal with what I achieved, although I also felt a simple emptying because my life for a long time was about planning this project. In January, I received official approval of logistics and media in Antarctica confirming that I had broke the record.
When Greenland crossed, Lars called “polar eggs”. The idea was that one day I will hatch and make a larger exploratory trip. When I got to the Antarctic, she sent him expressive symbols from a chick coming out of an egg. Although everything I faced, I feel too old.
