Florida company uses new technology to help housing crisis

Natural disasters can destroy the entire societies. More than 16,000 homes and other structures were destroyed California fires in January Lonely.

The rebuilding can be a waste of time and expensive, but Florida says it can rebuild within weeks for less money.

CBS news analysis found cost Building The supplies throughout the country increased by 47 % since 2016.

Patrick Murphy, a former Congress member in Pennsylvania, is the administrative director of Renco, the company behind the new technology, which was inspired by an extraordinary element: Lego Bricks. The brick is a compound made of glass, recycled plastic and other materials.

“We can mainly produce about 16 houses per day in this facility,” Murphy said.

Their factory on Jupiter, Florida, is scheduled to start increasing operations in April.

How technology works

The company said that the built houses can carry 240 miles per hour and more fire resistant than most bricks and wood. Another reward: it is waterproof.

Murphy said about the launch of their factory in Florida.

Yessica Coronado lived in an apartment near Palm Beach, Florida, for about a year. Coronado said she did not know that her complex was built differently from other buildings. The four buildings in their complex contain 96 units, the first of its kind in the country.

“I thought about it as a regular residential complex,” said Coronado.

Eleven workers built walls, floors and ceilings for each building – in just eight weeks.

“We have built much faster than we had done with wood or concrete, a kind of traditional material,” Murphy said.

Savings for costs and time

While Renco bricks are more expensive, Murphy said they still provide 20 % due to low time and work. They also provide insurance.

“We can get more products faster with non -skilled workers … this 2000 square feet can be built by two people in one day,” Murphy said.

Renko said that the main restriction is that it is currently crowned in buildings of no more than five floors.

“They have been so long given that our first building insurance is 20 % less for the long -term insurance type,” Murphy said. “It does not rot, it does not rust. The pests do not eat, right? The termites do not eat it.”

It is called Elia Azarov, the architect who studies sustainable construction at City University in New York “a great time for change” for construction.

“Last year, 114 million people were displaced due to the human -made natural disasters. So when I think about it, this should be a moment of change,” he said.

Azarov said that while products like Renco have restrictions on design and tend to be full, structural benefits and time saving is crucial.

“When I see innovation in the market like this, yes, we can build to resist fires, resist the earthquake, to the winds of the power of the hurricane, and the winds of the power of the hurricane, and we only have to have the political will to do this, and we must get the courage to try new ways to do things.”
