Google Calendar Deletes Black History Month, Pride and Other Cultural Events

Google has used for years its famous online services to remind users of cultural events, which achieves its evaluation application with occasions such as the month of black history and the month of women’s history.

Last week, some users noticed that the famous application no longer displays these celebrations, in addition to a group of others, which prompted a violent reaction online from some users who saw it as another sign that Google was turning against more liberal views.

But Google said it removed the calendar celebrations in the middle of last year for non -political reasons. A Google spokeswoman said in a statement that keeping hundreds of moments manually every year for various countries “was not developed or sustainable.”

The late noise occurred as Google and other major technology companies appeared to interact with conservative complaints that their products and policies are biased. Just last week, Google canceled its goals that determine the amount of diversity she wanted in the workforce, saying that as a federal contractor, she had to comply with President Trump’s executive orders that oppose diversity, equality and inclusion.

The controversy followed the evaluation decisions from Google and Apple to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America in their map applications after Mr. Trump ordered the name to change.

Google CEOs said on Wednesday that they will stop providing diversity training programs and updating other training efforts that have DEI content, I mentioned the guardian.

For more than a decade, I worked Google with it Timeanddate.com (A site that shows time, history and main holidays in places around the world) to name public holidays and national celebrations, such as the Day of the Presidents and the Labor Day. Several years ago, the spokeswoman said, that the Google Calendar team began to put a wide mark of cultural moments in the countries around the world, and asked the company to add more events and countries before it decided that this was impractical.

Google calendar users noted that the references to the month of heritage of Spanish origin, the month of Pride, the month of the American Jewish heritage, and the day of the Holocaust anniversary have all disappeared. The spokeswoman added that the Google Calendar once again displays the celebrations only from Timeanddate.com, including anniversary, Thanksgiving and Christmas Day, and users can add other moments. Drilling I mentioned for the first time the changing calendar.

Google Calendar app is used by More than 500 million people To work and personal reasons, some of them mocked Google’s explanation that it was very difficult to keep up with every occasion.

One of them indicated that Google “managed to maintain the day of Columbus in one way or another.” As a federal holiday, the Columbus Day is still automatically distinguished on Google Calendaries.

Another user said that the shift seemed to be an attempt to “rewrite history”, while others took changes as a sign that Google was trying to attract Mr. Trump.

Google said that in some countries, the celebrations that were marked on the day of the teachers were marked. While they went, the company said it was celebrating and enhancing cultural moments as a company in its other products.

In the last two weeks, this was the month of black history with animation on its search page and YouTube. I noticed the new lunar year with innovative logo graphics and a set of films on Google TV.
