Google ends DEI hiring goals
Through new American executive orders, court decisions and many companies that make changes on their DEL programs in recent weeks, we sat with Fiona Cicconi to see how Google thinks about this.
Can you tell us how to think about this through the company?
First, I want to be clear: We have always been committed to creating a workplace where we rent the best people wherever we work, and create an environment that everyone can flourish and treat everyone fairly. This is exactly what you can expect to see to go forward. Our users come from all over the United States and around the world, and we serve them better when our employees also do.
Every year, we review the programs designed to help us get there and make changes. Because we are a federal contractor, our teams are also evaluating the changes on our programs required to comply with the decisions of the recent court and US executive orders on this issue. For example, in 2020, we set ambitious employment goals and focused on developing our offices outside California and New York to improve acting. We will continue to invest in the states throughout the United States – and in many countries worldwide – but in the future we will not have ambitious goals.
I mentioned that we will evaluate our programs. Can you share more about it?
Melonie Parker and her team will carefully and carefully evaluate programs, courses and initiatives, and they will update them as needed – including those that arouse risks, or are not influential as we were hoping. It will work with senior leaders throughout the company.
Is there anything else you want Googleers now?
Although there are changes, our central staff resources will remain, as well as our work with colleges and universities, and worked to build products to help all of our users and partners. This is all vital for our business and our Googler community.
