After more than three decades of history -making on the Space Shuttle Endeavor, Dr. Mae Jemison continues to inspire the next wave of space travelers while defending science and education on Earth.
It was chosen from 2000 applicants to NassaIn 1987, Jemison was part of the first group of astronauts that were chosen after the competition accident in 1987. During her eight -day mission in the endeavor in 1992, she became the first colored woman to travel to space, where she conducted 44 scientific experiments alongside her crew.
“Space gives us a great perspective to look at Earth,” said Jimson. “We can look at and understand floods, what happened to the ozone layer, we can search for metals.”
She said despite being one of the few who were present spaceSpace techniques are combined in daily life.
“How many people have a smartphone? … this is a universal situation in your hand. We use space techniques every day,” said Jimson.
Besides practical applications, Jemison believes that space exploration offers a deep philosophical perspective.
