How Josh O’Connor Nailed Midwest Accent in Sundance’s ‘Rebuilding’

“I spent some time there before we started filming, not a lot of time but a little bit,” O’Connor said Miscellaneous Brent Lang. “It was just to hear some voices.”

“We also spent some time going on YouTube and I was looking for people from the right part of Colorado,” Max Walker Silverman added. “For a long time I didn’t hear it. I assumed it would be good. And I remember the first WhatsApp voice message he sent me and that was a great, amazing feeling.”

“One of the nice things about Max is that there are amazing, accomplished actors, but also non-professional actors who were local to where we shot,” O’Connor said. “There are Max’s friends from home. There are all kinds of people who have come together and live in the community that made the film as well as the story of the film.”

He added about including himself with the local crew: “I was adopting an accent that had nothing to do with my personality.” “Inevitably, we were in each other’s pockets all the time and feeding off each other. That environment of being with each other helps [the accent] “For stability.”
