RFK Jr likes to think his views on food dyes are pioneering. In fact, he’s way behind the curve | Devi Sridhar

S.My favorite memories as a child grew up in Miami used to go to the local exhibition and had blue blue cotton candy-sweet candy, as you call it in Britain. My siblings and my sisters are to get rid of our tongues to compare the range of blue. Sometimes, like milk in our lucky magic vessels, our herbs are formed from the bread such as satellites, horses, and colored rainbows anything that comes into contact with them. Candy Corn was one of the basic elements on Halloween, and the corn syrup jugs were everywhere on Thanksgiving to bake pumpkin and Baqan. These were rare treatments – we were a migratory family that they ate largely traditional Indian food – and for this caution, I am grateful.

We now know how artificial food colors affect cognitive, behavioral development, metabolism and nutritional children, and how they are associated with hyperactivity disorder in ADHD. This includes my favorite, preferred blue dye. Scientific review 2024 for certificate Synthetic colors in food indicate: Warning for children’s health to the potential toxicity levels of these additions, and it suggests replacing the dyes with completely natural sources instead.

Finding any of these dyes in Britain and the European Union is very difficult, and they are covered with warnings when they do so. In 1995, the UK government passed legislation (Colors in the food regulations) that prohibited certain colors in the production of food and requires laying signs (either by name or by something called No.) if any of the menu of some chemical food colors is used in manufacturing. Go further, in 2008, Food Standards Agency He suggested that UK manufacturers should remove artificial food colors, given the emerging evidence that connects these chemicals to children.

The United Kingdom has not reached the point of imposing a complete ban on these colors, as most European Union countries have done, but since 2010, food and drink that contains some artificial colors should carry a warning on the package: “It may have a negative impact on activity and attention in children.” Instead of withstanding this warning, most food manufacturers have turned into natural sources of food coloring such as beets, turmeric, growing and spyrolina.

European Union governments and the UK government had to interfere in this legislation because just leaving the food industry was not enough. Unrestricted capitalism, where motives are sales and producing products in the least possible way, even if they have possible negative health effects. How is the busy father to know, that is, pimples full of electronic colors that can negatively affect the development of their child, and which pills use natural colors? Signs put a big step forward, as well as warnings. The best of this is to make sure that what is on the shelves will not make you or your loved ones sick or weak.

I recently returned to the United States, and these artificial dyes are still sold in the same products since my childhood 30 years ago. In one of his last work in his position in January, former President Joe Biden Dye Red 3 in food manufacture after chemical studies have linked cancer in male mice. However, food manufacturers have until 2027 to overcome coloring, which means foods with this dye such as cakes, candy and cookies are still being sold without any warning on the label.

While food safety guidelines in countries in the European Union have evolved with evidence and the protection of consumer safety, the American supermarkets and American shops are full of products that are marketed and sold to children who have multiple ES, and the additions and colors that are banned or skiing in other countries. The sizes of the largest parts and fast food may be more clear when comparing the United States with Europe, but the most treacherous hidden difference is what is organized and allowed in food supply.

Through a possible trade deal in the UK, including food, the difference in standards represents challenges, and a potential slide in a lower safety tape. We have heard about concerns about antibiotics in American meat and chicken, but not about importing products from the United States that do not meet the UK safety standards. We already have more common denominators with Europe in terms of food integrity, and a trade deal with the European Union will improve our food safety line.

Things are slowly changing in the United States, from a sudden source. Robert F Kennedy Junior, Minister of Health and Humanitarian Services, has a group of Strange and dangerous viewsbut He speaks On organizing these additions and food colors under the Mahaa logo – or “make America healthy again” – a logo. Maha’s supporters love to announce that this is a pioneer. it’s not. Americans love to believe that we are pioneers in the world. Sometimes, we are behind the curve. In this case, very far from Europe, and more than a decade behind Britain.

While returning to the United States, I fell with a friend from England who is now living in Miami. I told her that I went to multiple supermarkets in search of super treatment products that do not contain something banned or organized in Europe. The ingredients lists were full of toxic chemicals, however they were sold without any warning or mark on consumers as they were buying. She laughed and said, “You are looking at the wrong section. Go to the British section of the supermarket and you will find safe food there.” Who was thinking that the British options would be healthy options?
