It’s time for Logitech to make a real Forever Mouse

Last fall, the CEO of Logitech Hanneke Faber was I laughed in a circular shape After proposing the company you want to produce a file “Mouse forever– The mouse that contains a monthly subscription fee for program updates. It seemed to betray the lack of understanding: Many people who buy mice do not want software EverMuch less than the programs that they have to pay for; The idea they pay per month silly.
But while I was sitting here with Logitech mouse completely good, the best I have ever, I started thinking that a kind of “Mouse” will not be a bad idea. Logitech has an opportunity and responsibility to make mice last longer, and I have a portion of the guide below the comfort of their hand. I use the wonderful mouse that slowly disintegrates.
In some respects, the wireless Lightspeed Logitech G502 is already the mouse forever. You may never have to charge the battery or replace it again, because I can use the magic wireless charging cushion for logic To keep its battery automatically at the ideal level. I did not connect this mouse once in nearly three and a half years.
Fortunately, the mouse buttons and their sensor have withstood during the same period, as much as I can say. But the grip of the soft rubber that allowed me to carry the tool? Just a few years after use, they reach the end. They wear, so looking to the point that I can not clean it simply. Worse than all of this, one of the handles began to finish the mouse frame and began to peel. It is uncomfortable to be crushed under my thumb every time I hold the mouse.
There is one clear solution: Logitech must sell alternative mouse parts. The company even claims that it sells mouse spare parts via IFIXIT. Below is a quote from Logitech Prakash Arunkundrum Operations Director in Ifixit is a press release: “Normal erosion of tears is inevitable, and this is why we are striving to make the simplest of people reach the original logic parts of their devices.”
But starting today, Logitech does not sell parts that will eat “tear”.
Here is complete List of parts You can buy For Logitech Mouse on IFIXIT:
- $ 10 for a group of screws
- $ 15 for a group of mouse sultans
- $ 20 for battery
Do not understand me wrong, it is refreshing to see the official parts in the open market. But these are not the first parts, or anyone who wants to repair a mouse logic, really needs.
We need a grip. buttons. Shells. Mouse wheels. Optimized, Microswitch assemblies. These are the things that wear over time – or at one time, if you have an unfortunate accident. Logitech and IFixit only sell three different types of mouse batteries. If you have a Mate Logitech G900 Mouse battery, like my wife, IFixit does not have this part.
Months ago, I contacted both Logitech and Ifixit to find out the little reason the offers, but I didn’t go far. Logistics refused freedomRequesting an interview about the reform strategy, and if not to talk about its role.
Here is what Logitec said, via the spokesperson at night Louis:
Yes, there are plans to add additional spare parts to the current IFixit products, as well as new products, to the Logitech Reform Center on IFIXIT in the future. We explore and evaluate other critical repair components (such as keys, buttons and scrolling wheels) based on the requirements of feasibility and compliance across the geographical areas.
IFixit Kyle Wiens CEO:
Logitic responds somewhat to what people ask. If there are certain parts that people want, please speak! We will expand the choice.
I told them all now, I simply need a fist. After several months, the choice of the Logitech part has not been expanded. I did not find alternatives anywhere (although Amazon will make me happy with some fist tape).
I can’t imagine a full $ 100 mouse replacement on a few pieces of rubber. If you have to do so, perhaps I will not choose Logitech again. Rubber paint exfoliation is exactly the reason why I had to stop using Logitech Mx518 loved for a decade ago. I do not expect mice to last forever, but I think it is worth sending the pioneer maker in the world, that a message that you cannot build products can be eliminated with the claim that they are repairable.
How much loyalty can Logitech inspire if mice are really repaired? How many mice you may sell if Word comes out – like the legendary C920 webcam from Logitech – was made to continue? If you purchase Logitech, then you are no You should neglect a device that suits you like glove, no You should continue to re -train your hand for a little different mouse forms? What if, at least, Logitech Three -dimensional printer files like Philips just did with ShaversSo that we can print our buttons and a yield?
Or does Logitech profits depend on people who are completely inhibiting good mice just because they started getting the total, wondering? I hate thinking about it. (Do not say the financial statements of the company.)
Fortunately, Logitech is now a way to refute this idea. Mouse forever, but forget to subscribe; Embrace the idea that mice should last.
