The theatrical writer talks to De Los about her production inspired by East Los Angeles, which opens in New York on April 27

Before “Real Women Gurves” was a theater or prize -winning movie, it was just a dream that Josefina López was in her magazine during the bathroom breaks from her job in Boyle Heights.

She was inspired by her colleagues – women – women on the margins of society – who are still having joy and wisdom despite their exploitative circumstances.

“My intention was to show people the courage that it requires to be a marginalized person and still love yourself,” Lopez said because of a call for enlargement.

More than two decades after the release of the film in 2002-who presented the fans of the Emmy America Ferrera Prize-winning actor-LG’s La Dream is now on his brilliance in New York. Directed and Designed by Sergio Trujillo, “Real Women Have Curves: The Musical” for the first official time in Broadway on April 27 at the James Earl Jones Theater.

This is the classic eastside story, Anna Garcia, a very teenager with educational aspirations, and often contradicts her traditional Mexican mother, Carmen. The story deals with issues of the image of the body and sexual independence within their community of immigrant women, who often appear inside a clothing factory in the summer summer heat of 1987.

The newcomer Tatiana Cordoba, a citizen of the Gulf region and graduated from the Boston Institute, plays the lead in this next story. The star and cinema in Purto Rican Justina Machado, who is famous for her role in “One Day Time” in Netflix, plays the role of Carmen – 32 years after I played Anna’s role for the first time in the first show in Chicago in the play. Mexican actress Florence Coenca He participated in leading the role of Estela, the eldest daughter of the Garcia family.

The Broadway Musical will find the various repetitions of this timeless story with the music of the Mexican singer Joy Hueta – half Duet Jesse Y Joy – and composer Benjamin Velez.

Lopez is the first show of “divine timing”.

“This story comes out exactly at this time when we need a story to change the narration about the fact that immigrants are criminals,” Lopez said, referring to the Trump administration. The last attempt to deport immigrants Al Salvador prisons is notorious without due legal procedures.

“It is necessary to reach Broadway to change culture,” Lopez added, with a reference to the cultural influence conducted by the “rent” of Jonathan Larson in 1996 in the national conversation surrounding HIV/AIDS.

On the first day of the rehearsal of production, Lopez gave Emotional speech About the reason for contacting the writing of “real women for them” 37 years ago. She was born in Saint Luis Potosi, Mexico, in Lopez, headed by most of the story on her own experience as an unconventional young young woman.

“I knew that there was a magical and distinctive thing from this moment in my life,” Lopez told the actors. “This story is important even if the whole world says that you are replaced, because you do not care, because you are not human. There was part of me he said,” No, I am a human being. “

Like Anna’s character, who leaves Boyle Heights to follow her dreams in Big Apple, Lopez moved to New York City at the age of 18. Intar (International Arts Relations) authors of Spanish origin attended at the Residence Laboratory; Under the leadership of the American American playwright, Maria Irene Furnies, the place where she began to make the official character to her ideas in a play, also called “true women’s curves”.

“I wanted to fight for my humanity and write about my humanity,” Lopez remembers, “and what is a real person and a woman.”

In 1998, he drew the attention of film producer George Lavo, who later called Lopez to adapt to the film. Together, they participated in writing the script.

With HBO support for production, 17 -year -old America Ferrera was represented as Anna – her biggest role in the cinema, after appearing in the Disney Sports Comedy! LUPE Ontiveros, which led to the production of plays from the play and in various Gregory Nava Movies, filmed as Carmen.

“She reminds me of my mother,” said Lopez.

After the success of the movie, there was a series of attempts to transform the story of the beloved West Coast into a musician, as Lopez said, but they faded due to the technical differences that could not be reconciled. It was even I met Trujillo, the Tony Prize -winning dance designer behind some of the most popular Broadway productions: “Memphis”, “Jersey Boys”, “on your feet!” And “is not very proud.”

Trujillo, originally from Cali, Colombia, was not documented for several years in Toronto before moving to New York to practice a profession in musical dance design. Lopez described the partnership as a “match.”

Lopez said: “It is the right way because I do not have to explain to him the lack of documented.” “He understands how you suffer and feel invisible.”

The Broadway Music is the moment of the complete circle of LUUTEZ, which was once imagined about “Women Real Haven Curves” to postpone it in New York. She may be evident in one of the final scenes of the 2002 movie, when Anna leaks from the subway station and finds herself in front of the box office at Broadway.

The photography site was not intended, as Lopez – was simply remembered the closest subway station to Lavo’s apartment – but something about that moment seems to be KISMET now.

Lopez said: “It is my story and it is my destiny.”
