Minnesota lawmakers targeted in shooting

Officials said the shelter in place remains in place on Saturday morning in Brooklyn Park, one of the northern suburbs of Minynabolis, after two legislators in Minnesota and their husbands fired a police officer. A mobile alert came out to the residents of the Minynabolis region, warning them of “shelter in place.”
Democratic Senator John Hoffman and MP Melissa Hortmann and their husbands were among the injured. The police did not confirm whether the shootings were on the same site, but they said that the victims were specifically targeted. Their injuries were not released publicly.
The suspect, described as a white man with a brown hair wearing a shield on the body over a blue shirt and pants, is considered armed and dangerous. The authorities urging residents near the Golf Edinburgh Stadium to stay inside and call 911 with any information.
The governor of the state, Tim Walz, said that the government emergency operations center has been activated, and that state agencies are helping to enforce local law. The FBI and the Sharif Office of Hinibin Province also participate in the search.

The shooting comes amid a rise in political threats and violence throughout the country. Minnesota, a flash point of national discussions on the police and public safety after the killing of George Floyd in 2020 in Minneapolis, faced increasing tensions in recent years between officials and extremist groups.
The investigation is continuing, and officials have not issued a possible motivation.
