Katherine Legge on NASCAR Cup Series debut: ‘This 100 percent is my identity’

Avendel, Areez – Catherine League Do not look at her race as the first woman in Naskar Cup series In more than seven years, it is proud to do.
It is disappointing that there are no more women [in] IndycarLig said, on Friday, the first day in a cup of training in the Phoenix race for Phoenix.
It will be a somewhat historical moment as Legge, driving for a live fast motorsport, is the first female to drive the current Gen in NASCAR and only eight women who compete in the modern cup age.
Everyone says, “How does it seem to be a girl in the race? “Lig said.” And I don’t know, because I only have my own experience. I don’t know how it is a boy in the race.
“So I know what my journey is, and I know that it has ended for me and went against me, and I know where there are struggles. I know mentally what you have to do to overcome these struggles.”
The 44 -year -old LEGGE has a wide CV of races that include 47 beginnings in the best open wheel car and about 100 starting (including four wins) in the upper road race chain. I have competed in everything from electric cars in the format e to the dwarf cars in The Chili Bowl. Make legge five professions xfinity Start and you will make it for the first time in the cup on Sunday.
“I have paid a lot of race forms,” Lege said. “I feel this is the person I really wanted to do, you liked me. I love it. It is in my blood.
“You know how to say that your job should not be your identity? Well, this 100 percent is my identity. I am just a race driver.”
The cup will appear for the first time in a two -week stoch for Legge, who met NASCAR officials two weeks ago at Atlanta Motor Speedway to find out what you will need to get a race license in the cup. It was approved for road cycles and followed one and shorter mile. While it was logical last week in the Americas circuit most of her experience on her way, she and Fast Live had no time to prepare in a week.
So she had just less than two weeks to prepare for the first time in the cup. Richard Childress Racing has pushed and Chevrolet (movement simulation where the seat moves). A car drove a car to stop the Hendrick Motorsports this week just to get used to how to stop and release the cup.
“I feel either I will drown or swim, but everyone gave me the best possible chance to go there and do a good job,” said Lig.
LEGGE hopes to compete in more cup events, and she did not rule out the start of Indycar.
“I would like to say I hope to do more Indycar races,” said Leg.
Indianapolis 500?
“I love it,” she said. “let’s see.”
Leg said that the stampede to reach a race in a cup that has nothing to do with the month of women’s history and everything about the race in Phoenix, who felt that the team would be a better path for it for the first time in the Martinsville and Bristol smaller paths in the next few weeks.
“[I was hoping to] Fly under the radar for the first cup race. No one will notice, I am just in the back, we will relax, we will get nascar permission [to do more]”Leger said,” Then there was someone, “You know that it is the International Women’s Day.”
Oh, s—-, do not fly under the radar [was my response]. Therefore, no, I did not take it into account. “
When you finish the race, Legge wants an effect on increasing the number of girls and women who are in motor sport. In recent years, the NHRA Drag Racing race was one of the forms of motorsport as women have achieved a steady success. She will be the first woman to compete in the cup race since Danika Patrick in 2018 Dynona 500.
“There was a kind of gap. There was Sarah Fischer and Danika [Patrick] I am and Simona [de Silvestro] A group of good drivers in that era. Then there was such a gap and this calm, ”Lig said about women in the upper racing chain in various forms of motorsport.
“When I stop the race, … I would like to bring the next generation because I think there is only a handful of us that has these common experiences, and I think my experience may be valuable in helping them to move in it.”
Her experience allowed her to know that questions related to women in the race come with the region.
“For me, it’s just,” Lig said. “I prefer only people to see me as another race driver in the merit race. But this is not a reality, and I am not fortified or blind than the fact that it helped me in ways as well.
“So I just go there and be Catherine and do my best.”
