The Wednesday accident was the latest in a number of racist flash points in the Spanish League, where Vinicius himself was the subject of 16 cases in the league until May of last year. In June, three fans were sentenced to eight months in prison for abuse of Madrid striker, and the first individuals who were ever convicted of racist insults in a Spanish football field. Earlier this week, a Granada fans who were abused by racist Carlos Akabo, who was formerly in CADIZ, was sentenced to one year in prison.

In these cases, Tebas sees signs of progress in a fight that says it cannot be fully won. On Wednesday, the events of La Liga were told of the Financial Times of Football Summit, “There was one incident with a very small group of people. This is happening with Spain. We do much more than appear in public places, I don’t think other countries do a lot.

“We are walking along the right path in this case … in the Veniceus case, we have two rulings against fans of Valencia and one of Mallorca. We are two parties in all issues related to insults on and outside the field. Our responsibility is not only on the field, if it is abroad and wears someone with a football shirt, and we do not want racist comments.

“We have to put chants to the end but all measures are performed. To put an end to 100 percent of cases it is impossible, but I really think we are walking along the right path.”

In November, Vinicius praised himself on the campaign of suppression and successful trials as “very important” while insisting on “it is the battle of everyone, because I alone cannot fight everything that blacks suffer.”
