Brian Wilson was not the last stop on music’s great adventure | Brian Wilson

And I agree with Rachel Arsti that Brian Wilson was a gift for humanity, and I love his music (Brian Wilson was a musical genius. Are there any remains? , 14 June). But the musical genius should not be equal to the prevailing success – as music is estimated by those who reach. I can name many of the least well -known musicians who are still pushing the boundaries of the sound: Anna MerridithMarriage to electronic and classic springs to mind, for example, or Anna B SavageA mixture of intimate pop singing with high arrangements.
Moreover, Arosti appears to be working from a very narrow framework of cultural reference. Its article says that Wilson was “lyricly” in converting pop into his “emotional biography”, as Wilson David Lev’s biography said. What about the French Canson, which dominated Europe in the 1940s and 1950s and brought the words of the CV to the main current?
Arosti also suggests that pop music has reached its country in the 1960s and is now repeating itself-which overlooks the basic truth that all art is in a conversation, on a development journey that never ends. Certainly, Shakespeare and Shekhov were unusually wonderful, but there were some decent plays written in 300 years between them, and we never had to Chekhov without the stones of all temporary works.
I suggest that Arosti spends some time thinking about the system in which she lives, and which seems to lead her to believe that the only remaining musical geniuses exceed 70 years (and most of them are white men Pomer). Meanwhile, I will listen to Kae Tempest (genius, in my eyes).

The question posed in the Rachel Aruiste article is provocative, but the frame is narrow. He treats a “musical genius” as if it was primarily inside the western pop and rock, ignoring the extraordinary musical invention that occurs in pop music all over the world and in other types. Brian Wilson was a great creator, but he was inspired by Classic music, jazz and experimental music. Arosti is briefly touched on the Beatles, but not overwhelming it in Indian music. This interconnection is important. Genius are rarely limited to geography or gender.
If aroesti believes that Pop feels stagnation, then this may say more about the industry in the West more than a genius. It may not always be packed for British or American plans, but this does not mean that it has disappeared. We have more music available in our hands more than any other point in our history; We just need to listen more widely.
