More deadly heat, more extreme weather
Global temperatures are expected to reach standard or semi -standard levels during the next five years, which paves the way to overcome the deadly killer weather, according to an annual report from two of the best meteorological agencies in the world.
There is now a 70 % opportunity that global warming over the next five years exceed 1.5 degrees Celsius, and Wednesday’s report from the World Meteorological Organization and the United Kingdom.
More than 1.5 degrees of global warming is more severe, including operation The turning points in the climate system. Scientists have warned that the melting of marine ice and ice rivers can soon reach the point of no return, with dramatic effects on sea level rise.
The report indicates that there is an 80 % chance to be at least one year in the next five is the warmth ever. Also, for the first time, it raises the possibility, albeit from a distance, that one of those years will have at least a warmer temperature at least before the times before humans begin to burn large quantities of fossil fuels that flow into the planet.
The predictors said that the result of the possibility of 1 %, but the “non -zero” opportunity is important, and reflects how the risk of 1.5 degrees has increased over the past decade.
“We have just seen ten more warmer years ever. Unfortunately, the WMO report does not provide any sign of a rest period over the coming years, and this means that there will be a growing negative impact on our economies, our daily life, environmental systems and our planet,” said Deputy Secretary -General of Meteorological Secretary in a statement.
The 1.5 -degree global warming will take a step forward towards violating the stretch goal Paris Climate AgreementAnd that many countries-especially the low-island countries are viewed-as they are necessary for their survival. The agreement calls for limiting warming to much lower than 2 degrees in the long run, although one year in that mark will not break the goal of the agreement.
It is expected that the warming in the Arctic will continue to excel the rest of the world significantly, with a temperature of more than 3.5 times the global average during the polar winter, according to the Wednesday report.
Along with the melting of ice panels and increasing sea levels, each part of a degree of warming is translated into frequent and intensive extreme weather events such as heat waves and heavy rains.
It was last year The heat on the record The first evaluation year was marked by a 1.5 -degree length of the Paris Convention.
The past five years have been marked by the exacerbation of the maximum levels around the world, from unprecedented heat waves to fatal internal floods of intense hurricanes quickly Like Helen last year.
The WMO and Met Office report includes results from more than 200 expectations of computer models run by 15 scientific institute around the world. The report pointed out that the expectations of this past group have proven to be very accurate on a global scale, as the report indicated, with less accuracy of predictions on more regional levels.
