‘Reminds me of sun cream’: the best (and worst) supermarket coconut milk, tasted and rated | Food

COconut milk is always found in the front and the middle in my warehouse because it is the cornerstone in a lot of cooking. I buy it in large quantities and rely on it to bring a sharp, fragrant cream and dairy -free to many of my favorite dishes, from curry and dalas to soup and rice dishes. Also, it is indispensable for sweets for vegetarian friends, and for the gentle -lactose -lactose husband. It comes out of the spices and pulls a dish together, adding silk to the sauces, sweet richness, spinning to the cakes, fighters and vegetable parade.

I am able to comfortable things because making coconut milk from scratch, just as my mother used to do it when I grew up in Kenya, hard order: the ripe brown coconut must be broken, the meat is filtered, then it was soaked in hot water, before tension and illness several times through cheese.

What I am looking for when buying coconut milk is the minimum of ingredients and a large percentage of coconut. Ideally, coconut milk should have two components: coconut milk and water. Buying good quality-unlike one backed by localities, emulsions and fixtures-often makes the difference between the wonderful and bad dish. I try to use those that are not added to any stabilizers or emulsions, such as biona (see below) and Clearspring. I also love some of the least available Asian brands, like AROY-DAlthough it contains a thicker factor, it contains 70 % coconut content, which makes it one of the most coconut milking forward in the market.

★ ☆☆☆☆

Water and very sweet. This may be used to make dairy -free pies or cake dough, but it will not work well in Carrie Thailand, as you need a deep coconut flavor.

ASDA coconut milk

85p for 400 ml in Asda

☆☆☆☆

Thin, water and disappointing, especially if you hope to enrich or intensify the sauce. It also tastes a little bitter and tight, as if it was better.

Asia Specializations Coconut Milk

79p for 400 ml in aldi

This has a strange and metal taste that lacks fragrance and flavor. I imagine that this will need a lot of curry paste that adds to it to hide unpleasant taste.
