Now, a new threat is aimed at Android and iPhone: Sparkkitty, a strong strain for harmful programs that wipe special photos to steal the phrases of cryptocurrency and other sensitive data.

What are Markkitty mobile programs
The researchers at the Kaspersky Security Company recently identified Sparkkitty. These harmful programs seem behind Sparkcat, a campaign that was first reported earlier this year that used visual letters (OCR) to extract sensitive data from photos, including encryption recovery expressions.
Sparkkitty goes further than Sparkcat. According to Caspersky, Sparkkitty downloads images from the affected phones without discrimination. This tactic not only displays the data of the wallet, but also any personal or sensitive images stored on the device. Although the main goal seems to be coding seed phrases, criminals can use other images for blackmail or harmful purposes.
Kaspersky researchers reported that Sparkkitty has worked at least for at least February 2024. The attackers distributed it through both official and unofficial channels, including Google Play and Apple App Store.

How do harmful programs affect Android and iPhone devices
Kaspersky SparkKitty found in many applications, including an application called 币 currency on iOS and another called Soex on Android. Both applications are no longer available in their stores. SOEX, a correspondent application with the cryptocurrency -related features, has connected to more than 10,000 downloads from the Google Play store before removing it.
On iOS, attackers deliver malicious programs through the parties to fake programs or institutions profiles, and often disguised as legal ingredients. Once installed, Sparkkitty uses an original linguistic method programming Apple Objective-C to run once the application is launched. The Apple and Google removed the specific applications after alerting them, but the questions about how to overcome SparkKitty to their application reviews in the first place.
