“Hills” stars Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montagalong with other Pacific property owners, sued the city of Los Angeles and the Department of Water and Power for damages caused by the Palisades Fire.

The plaintiffs, who number more than 20, are seeking an unspecified amount of property damage compensation in a claim for “inverse condemnation.” In order to prevail, they would have to show that the city’s operation of the water system caused damage to their property.
Pratt previously shared that his home and his parents’ home burned down in the Palisades fire. The complaint states that the local Santa Ynez reservoir had been emptied and disconnected from repairs in the weeks leading up to the fire.
The status of the Santa Ynez Reservoir generated public and political interest in the wake of the Palisades Fire, with Governor Gavin Newsom launching an investigation into the loss of water pressure in the blaze. Several officials stated that the hydrants had proven to be more operable had the tank held water, although it remained unclear how much, if any, property damage could be mitigated.
This new case represents the latest reverse condemnation lawsuit to arise from those affected by the Los Angeles area wildfires, which experts highlight as the costliest in U.S. history.
Several cases have been submitted by victims of the Eaton Fire, which broke out east of Los Angeles shortly after the Palisades shooting and continues to burn. The lawsuits allege that poorly maintained transmission towers owned by the energy company, Southern California Edison, were the origin of the fire. The cause of both letters remains under investigation.
