Team USA, Capitals star TJ Oshie preaches love for country after Trump post gets backlash

Washington Capitals Team USA star TJ O’Shea was forced to return to social media to defend a post related to President Donald Trump during his inauguration on Monday.

O’Shea had posted a simple drawing of Trump, reading “America is back” in large letters followed by a message. O’Shea commented on the post, saying, “God bless America,” with the phrase, ” USA flag emoji.

Trump’s message on the graphic read: “Every day I will fight for you with every breath in my body.” He added, “I will not rest until we achieve the strong, safe, and prosperous America that our children deserve and you deserve. This will truly be America’s golden age.”

Well, the commenters under O’Shea’s post were not very friendly, prompting him to defend the post and his love for his country.

“That escalated so quickly!” O’Shea wrote on Online, that’s great even though I don’t see the honor in that and it seems silly.

Some commentators said they were worried about O’Shea’s daughters when Trump takes over as president, and O’Shea had time to respond.

“To the people concerned about my daughters, thank you for your concern,” O’Shea added. “My four children will grow up with parents who support them, who tell them they love them every day, who teach them to be strong and, above all, to be good and kind people.”

And then there were the commenters who said they were going to throw O’Shea’s shirts in the trash.

“Note: For those of you who are getting rid of your shirts…maybe you should just erase the name and number. Remember the name on the front is much more important than the name on the back. Love you guys today and always! God bless America.”

Oshie, a Stanley Cup winner with the Capitals in 2018, played the past nine seasons In the NHL In the nation’s capital, where he is serving as alternate captain this year.

The 38-year-old was also a Team USA legend, having historic moments such as a four-goal penalty shootout win against Russia during the 2014 Olympics in Sochi. The United States finished fourth during those Olympics, but O’Shea spent years representing the Stars and Stripes with three men’s national teams in 2009, 2010 and 2013, as well as the junior national team in 2006.
