Texas floods death toll creeps up as search and rescue continues
(Reuters) -The death toll in Kiir County has sneaked up to 87 on Tuesday with the continued search and rescue efforts in central Texas, which was transferred to the floods, according to officials in the worst district of the disaster, which killed more than 100 people.
The heavy rains before dawn on Friday, the Guadalobi River, whose banks exploded and dozens of people were killed, leaving behind piles of debris, trees and cars.
Sherif Larry Letha said at a press conference, with more than twenty victims whose identity has not yet been determined, at least 56 adults and 30 children in Kiir Province. The authorities did not specify whether the victim was 87 adults or a child.
Some of the victims were spending their summer in the Mystic camp near the banks of the river, and there were five children and consultants who were still missing on Tuesday.
Local officials have faced angry questions about whether they can warn people of clear, dangerous floods in Texas Hill Control soon.
Rescue teams from the neighboring and Mexico states joined the local efforts to search for survivors, which were hindered by thunderstorms.
“The work is very left and takes a long time,” Lieutenant -Colonel Baker of the Texas guards said at the press conference. “It is a dirty job. The water is still there.”
