Texas governor signs online safety law in blow to Apple and Google

Texas Governor Greg Abbott has signed a draft child safety law online that requires Apple and Google to ensure that their application stores are checking the age of users in the second most widespread state in the country.
Under the new law, Kasseron will need the approval of the parents before they can download applications or make purchases within the application. The bill is opposed by Google and Apple.
“We believe that there are better proposals that help children in the safety of children without asking millions of people to hand over their personal information,” Apple spokesman said in a statement on Tuesday.
Google did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the BBC.
Texas follows Utah, another conservative country, which has adopted a similar law earlier this year.
At the federal level, American lawmakers have led the online safety law for children, known as Kosa, which will require social media companies to take design choices that prevent and reduce damage to young users.
Kosa was approved by the US Senate last year but stopped in the House of Representatives, the Chamber of Lower US Congress.
The legislation of the proposed parties supported by Apple, in Congress earlier this month.
In the absence of a federal law, the states chose to reach their legislation.
Laws that call for age improvement have incited application store providers such as Apple and Google against social media companies.
Meta, which owns the social network on Facebook and Photo Sharing App Instagram, has been clicked, to be Apple and Google responsible for verifying user era.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, the ruler Abbott earlier this month in an attempt to stop the approval of the state bill.
A Apple spokesman said that the technology giant participates in “the goal of enhancing children’s safety online”, but added that it was “very concerned” with the threat that it believes is the law that it puts on the privacy of all users.
“[I]The company spokesman said: “T requires the application markets to collect sensitive personal information for each Texas who wants to download an application, even if it is an application simply provides weather updates or sports scores.”
In February, Apple announced a large number of new child safety measures, including requirements that users choose the age group on a new device.
For users under the age of 13, one of the parents or guardian must agree to use the PAPP store and other features that require the use of his face identifier.
The law was appointed to be valid on January 1.
Texas has compressed Silicon Valley through legislation before.
In 2021, the state made illegal for social media platforms to ban users based on their “political views” after Republican politicians accused Facebook, then the company was known as Twitter to control their opinions.
