Darwish is a really important Palestinian Palestinian poet, editor, and journalist, and this book is a selection of the past decade of his poetry. This means that he travels a series. There are poems for storytelling, as they create myths and small small myths, such as ice balls that you can get rid of and stick to. There are dreams of dreams about the homeland that has been exiled long ago. There are also love poems.
The translator, Karim James Abu Atid, did an incredible work. Lines feel appearance – sometimes in translations, there is a kind of euphoria or hardness with the language, but this looks quite normal. One of my favorite moments in this says, “This land: the remains of strangers who are naturalized by death.” This idea, “naturalized with death” – feels only crystalline and unbalanced, as I am surprised by how it is in the presence of a nation that we can all belong to, where the only limits are deaths.
