Engine. Train wreckage. British theater actor. the mom. The weak. These are the original models in the heart of the first Daniel D’ddario, “The Talent”, which focuses on five actresses competing for the Academy Award.

But the same characteristics can apply to this year’s candidates – a group that includes the previous Brat Packer Demi Moore“Anora”, the newcomer Mickey Madison And the “wicked” star Cenatia Evo Besides Fernanda TorresThe mother, “I am still here”, and “Emilia Perez” controversial Carla Sofia Jaskoun.

“I was telling people that if I wrote a novel about the best Oscar for this year’s actress, it would have been rejected as unbelievable and beyond belief.”

D’Addario was inspired by the writing of “The Talent”, his arrival at libraries a week before the ceremony, by imagining the fields of life that cannot be reached as a famous writer and supervisor in Variety’s “Actors on the actors” series.

“It was very fun to set this and imagine closed conversations that I am not familiar with,” he says.

Just as the fun: discussing who we want to win, who we think will win (we both withdraw for “Anora” and Moore) and – the previous racist tweets reveal from Gascón – we enjoy “positive, optimistic and fun arcades” this is also the most chaos in memory Modern.

The following interview is lightly edited and intensified for length and clarity.

It was not possible for a novel about the drama and the best Oscar actress in a more suitable time.

I was shocked a little. I was telling people that if I wrote a novel about the best Oscar race about the actress for this year, it would have been rejected as unreliable and beyond belief.

What inspired you to write “talent”?

Anyone who pays attention to the Academy Awards or Awards in general knows that there are people, over time, have a reputation as a perennial loser. There are many people who this is true. I got thinking about what it takes, if you lost the prize [multiple] Times, to continue to return knowing that the possibility is, because you are one of five, you will lose again. What is the internal force that it takes on the one hand, and what is the desire it requires on the other hand? I thought this would be an interesting struggle that could nourish interesting characters.

How was it like writing imagination, from a press background?

As a reporter, I presented a set of facts. I can’t change it, but with my writing skills, I can make it interesting as possible. Using imagination tools, I can use the scenarios that I was compensating and making them touch more explicitly on the topics I was interested in, such as parents and children, class differences and other things that play in the book. I felt intense heat in a way that I was not a reporter, although I liked reporting.

Below are five characters that can be recognized as a kind of actresses who create friction between them. It was very fun to set this and imagine closed conversations that were not familiar with. When I write a profile, I am lucky to spend two hours with someone, but it is in a very medium context.

Was there any realistic stories that inspired some stories?

I saw a documentary eight years ago at the New York Film Festival on life Maria CallasAnd I raised it to one day. So when I was thinking about the movies I can put [my characters] In, you like, Maria Callas’s biography will be a really good movie! clearly Pablo Larain He had the same idea. I thought about changing it to something else because I didn’t want to look as if I was copying it, but I had almost finished it. Angelina Jolie He was throwing.

I do not want to say a lot, as I want readers to find their own prayers between the characters and who will be their counterparts in the real world. Throughout the book, there are these moments when we take away from the narration and see how the world imagines these women, and my intention was to be funny and satirical, but also a glimpse of the idea that this race in the end is completely beyond their control, regardless of how difficult they are trying because it will always be seen from During other eyes. Before you reach voters and viewers at home, it must be interpreted through the media, which will always have its own agendas and bias.

What do you think of the list of the best actual actress candidates, which look like a truly exciting crop and playing anyone, not only in this category but in all areas. Do you agree?

I think the Academy Awards this year were very exciting. The best image you feel is unstable and like many different films that can win. This is what you want. You want to feel as if it was a healthy competition and everything gets his moment. When this is just a coronation, this is boring.

As for the best actress, and all the acting groups, between the real new arrivals and the first candidates with a great story, it seems cliche but sadly sad. Regardless of the elephant in the room, it seems to be a positive, superior and enjoyable season, and it is an answer to the question about the reason we do at all at a moment that many people suffer in Los Angeles. But in a world where the offer should continue to help the Los Angeles economy and provide work for all people who provide them with work, there are many great stories that have come out of.

Let’s get to the elephant in the room after that-I said earlier that if you include stories like what happened in the best actress race in the real life in “The Talent”, then he will be unrealistic, but in fact, Karla Sofía Gascón of all Something he writes himself.

Where do you start? With all indications, it seems that Carla Sofia Jaskoun regrets that this has happened. I don’t want to deal with it more. It was a double education for it. She had a very fast height, and a very fast fall. Both these two are a challenge in different ways. I feel everyone, because it cannot be easy to be one of its participating stars and constantly ask about the tweets that you did not write and did not know about it. GASCón has taken a provocative position on social media that she did not serve well. Someone should have entered and cleaned her. She really wanders everything and [the Academy Awards campaign for “Emila Pérez”] It seems to move without it. I thought we are still thinking about it until the night of the Oscars, but when you go back, it is just another data point in the most chaotic Oscars that I can remember.

In a more positive note, one of your characters says that the way the campaign circle is prepared is to deliberately isolate the candidates from each other and encourage them to compete. One thing I found really refreshing is the intimate friendship between the candidates.

Besides all the drama, it is certainly noticeable that the feelings were good this year. He feels that there is a level of respect among the candidates who really deserve to see it. I am lucky to be part of “actors in a variety of actors” – I am there when we photograph them – it was especially beautiful this year. There was a lot of intimate friendship. Perhaps there is no candidate for the interface. If there is one movie that wins everything, he will feel more punishment for those who were in it to go and lose every time.

Who do you want to win the leading actress?

This is difficult. On the foundations, “Anora” is my favorite film for this year and “Anora” is “Anora” without Mikey Madison. It’s great. Part of me wants it to win, and part of me who wrote this book that concluded in long job novels and is transferred to Demi. If either of them, I will be very happy.

Who do you think will win?

Demi Moore.
