In the Zullta community in Ecuador, agriculture revolves around more than just food: it relates to the cultivation of a deep relationship with the land based on the ancestors. On her trips in the region, Colombo Ecadoori photographer Yinna higuera They cooperate with rural women, who buy in exchange for their understanding of medicinal plants and give them their papers from their gardens. In the Tracess series, which was included in the Sony World Award for Photography, Higuera uses chlorophyll printing to install women’s pictures on banana, vegetables and herbs. “Each of these women has a unique story, however, they all participate in a deep bond with the earth. Through these pictures, my goal is to make their strength and wisdom visible, and honor their role as rulers of the land,” she says.
