Wasps stole genes from viruses

pDomesticated people Sheep, cattle, wheat and corn. Domesticated wasps viruses. Just as the domestication of other species helped increase human numbers, the domestication of viruses helped explode wasps. This, at least, is the conclusion reached by Benjamin Genet, an evolutionary biologist at the University of Lyon in France. As he writes in Proceedings of the Royal SocietyIt is believed that an ancestor of a group of wasps called Cynipoidea, which parasitize flies, incorporated 18 viral genes into its genome in a domestication process that occurred 75 million years ago, and that this helped the group to flourish.
