Winnipeg Jets prospect Chaz Lucius, 21, announces retirement

Lucius said that he was diagnosed with EHLERS-DANLOS syndrome, which affects the connective tissues that settle and support joints and organs in the body. He has dealt with joint injuries during the past few years, whether to preserve and recover from them.
“I thought I was lucky. With this diagnosis of EDS, I now realize that my body could not deal with the material nature of hockey play,” he said in a statement through Nioport Sports, who liked him. “Given this condition, the date of injury, and the physical nature of hockey, it was medically advised not to continue playing.”
Lucius was born in Lawrence, Kansas. The product of the American national team development program was later attended by Minnesota University (2021-22). The planes chose him 18 in the 2021 draft.
Played with Moss during the past three seasons, missing time due to injury. He had nine points in 25 games this season, but he was not in the squad since early February. Coach Mark Morrison said at the time that Lucius “has a medical condition that needs more evaluation.”

Lucius thanked Jets for its support “through a very difficult time”, as it discouraged Mike Kane from the team’s development team for “caring for me as a person as well as a player.”
He also thanked all the current and former coaches and his colleagues. “I feel blessed because I experienced everything that hockey gave over the years even though I crushed that I cannot continue to follow my dream of playing in NHL,” he said.
Lucius said he was planning to be an advocate for those who have two editors.
