Moderna’s combo Covid and flu mRNA shot outperforms current vaccines in large trial

Covid and Flu Covid, built into Moderna, outperformed the current independent vaccines of both viruses, according to the results of a clinical trial for the 3rd stage that was published on Wednesday in American Medical Association Magazine.

The vaccine uses the same Messenger RNA technology like Covid vaccine approved by Moderna. (There are no approved footage of the influenza based on us.)

The experiment, funded by Moderna, included more than 8,000 adults between the ages of 50 years and over who were recorded in October and November 2023. For people who are 65 years old or older, it was compared to the Covid vaccine and a different flu photography, called Flozone, which is a stronger dose that is usually given to greater adults Sana. Participants in the experiment got the existing shots, or a new group vaccine as well as an imaginary snapshot. (In this way, both groups got an injection.)

The main goal of the experiment was to know if the complex vaccine generates more antibodies in blood samples more than the current shots against multiple strains of influenza and YE XBB.1.5 Covid Variant. This alleged worshiper test is a common way to researchers to measure the quality of the pollen and the duration of the continued protection.

The experiment found that the levels of antibodies were higher for Covid and all influenza strain except for one of the people who got a plural vaccine, compared to those who got the shots in both groups.

Dr. Buddy Creech, a physician who is infectious for children at the Medical Center at Vanderbelt University in Nashville, Tennessee, said the levels of antibodies resulting from the new vaccine were higher than 20 % to 40 %.

Dr. Jesse Godman, a professor of medicine and infectious disease at Georgetown University and a former chief scientist in the Food and Drug Administration, said that the results of the experiment are a good sign that the marginal shot will provide protection against both Kovid and the influenza.

“We know that the responses of antibodies are generally linked to a degree of protection,” said Godmann. “This is very promising and indicates that this vaccine must have similar or higher levels of conventional influenza vaccines.”

Side effects such as fever and chills were more common in people who got the new vaccine. Creech attributed this to how the body responds to the vaccine.

He said: “Organized, what happens in every cell is that they act as if they were infected with both viruses, and therefore your immune system will respond and make the type of inflammation that you have been subjected to influenza, both or both at the same time.”

The mixture would make it easier for people to obtain vaccination against both Covid and influenza, especially since both shots usually appear in the fall. Experts say a new shot is needed to provide better protection, because current vaccines do not do a good job to stop inflammation.

Data is expected to use the Moderena app on Food and Drug Administration for approval. Last week, Moderna said it does not expect an organizational approval of its composition until 2026, after the agency said it requires late data that shows the effect of the cat against the influenza.

It is not clear whether the new rule of the agency is that all new vaccines will need to undergo clinical trials that are controlled by fake to obtain approval of the mixture. Food and Drug Administration theReady to delay Novavax‘s Corona virus vaccineAn additional clinical trial requires a condition of updated Covid vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna to fall.

A Moderna spokesman rejected the comment. A HHS spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Dr. Peter Hotles, Dean of the National College of Equatorial Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine and the co -manager of the Texas Children’s Hospital for vaccine development, pointed out that flexible vaccines are a special goal among the Anti -Qazi Activists, and several states have introduced legislation that they would prohibit.

He said: “One of the things that I am concerned, at least for the United States, is all the feelings of the fight against, and this targeting specified for a flexible vaccine platform by activists against the stories.”

Houtiz said the fake Moderna snapshot will be “very possible progress”, as it will require people to take only one shot for virusen in the respiratory system.

“If this succeeds, you can also use it to add RSV or in addition to other pathogens,” he said.

Godman, of Georgetown University, said that the snapshot of Marna, which also targets the influenza, can help the United States respond more quickly if there is a result of influenza. The current influenza shots depend primarily on the breeds of the virus transplantation in the eggs, which is slower compared to flexible vaccines.
