White House OPM orders all DEI offices to begin closing by end of day Wednesday

WASHINGTON – The federal Office of Personnel Management (OPM) has told agency and department heads that they must begin taking steps to close all Diversity, equity and inclusion Government employees in those offices are on paid leave at the end of the day Wednesday, Fox News Digital has learned.

Acting Director of the Office of Personnel Management, Charles Ezell, sent a memo to department and agency heads and acting department heads Tuesday evening directing them that no later than 5 p.m. on Wednesday, January 22, they should:

  • Send an agency-wide notice to employees informing them of the closure and ask employees if they know of any efforts to hide these programs using coded or imprecise language
  • Send notice to all employees of the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) offices that they will be placed on paid administrative leave effective immediately as the agency takes steps to close/terminate all DEIA initiatives, offices, and programs.
  • Remove all external media (websites, social media accounts, etc.) of DEIA offices
  • Withdrawal of any final or pending documents, directives, orders, materials, and equity plans issued by the agency in response to Executive Order 14035, now rescinded, on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility in the Federal Workforce (June 25, 2021)
  • Cancel any DEIA-related trainings and terminate any DEIA-related contractors

The memo also directed agency and department heads that by noon on Thursday, January 23, they should share with OPM:

  • A complete list of DEIA offices and any employees who were in those offices as of November 5, 2024
  • Complete list of all DEIA-related agency contracts as of November 5, 2024
  • Any agency plans to fully comply with the above Executive Orders and this memorandum

By Friday at 5 p.m., agency heads must submit the following to OPM:

  • A written plan to implement a reduction in force action with respect to employees who work in the DEIA office
  • A list of all contract descriptions or employee position descriptions that have been changed since November 5, 2024, to obscure their connection to DEIA programs

The memo comes after President Trump signed an executive order eliminating all DEI programs from the federal government.

The president also signed an order making it “the official policy of the United States government to recognize only two sexes: male and female.”
