Drought conditions already hitting UK crop production, farmers say | Water

Farmers said crops have already failed in England due to the drought conditions this spring.

The Environment Agency said that people should start legalizing their use of water, as water companies are preparing for the dehydration. The government also asked the executives of water to do more to avoid water shortage, and EA said the Hoseipipe ban on the horizon if a large amount of rain does not decrease.

National members drought The group, which met on Wednesday to discuss their plans, told the Guardian newspaper that there is no “stagnation” in the system, that the water companies are “sadly prepared” for drought and that the plan for many is “praying simply for rain.”

It was a dry start in the spring 69 years ago. England has seen more dry march since 1961 and in April, the country received half of the normal rains. Farmers were forced to start the crops early, and the levels of the tank are either low or exceptional in the east and northwest of England.

According to the National Farmers Syndicate (NFU), some crops are already failing, and the large early rainfall will be necessary to avoid major yield sanctions and additional losses. Livestock yields can be at risk; The grazing has not yet extended, but farmers indicate that the fields will need a decent amount of rain to get animals during the summer.

“The dry conditions and the lack of any great rains mean that farmers in some parts of the country have started to irrigate crops at a time much earlier than usual. The harsh weather patterns that we have passed over over the past few years affect our ability to feed the nation.”

The last time the UK was infected with a bad dryness in 2022, when crops failed, London, and almost southeast depleted water and weeks of going to emergency measures. There was also a Hoseipipe around the country. NDG experts said this year is similar to those in 2022.

The tank levels are less than this time in 2022. Store the tank throughout England is 84 % of the total capacity, compared to 90 % at the end of April in 2022. I heard NDG that a number of tanks in the north are much lower than what should be at this time of the year, and that the northern water companies increase their activities on leakage repair before summer. They are already looking for extraction from rivers, months before it is needed, and the river flows are exceptionally low at the present time. I heard NDG that there were mass fish deaths above what was expected at this time of the year.

“There is no flexibility in the system,” a source said to NDG.

“If the summer remains dry like this spring, then the most dry spring since the reputable year of 1976, we will all pay the price of contentment with contentment with satisfaction with change.

“With the killing of fish already at a high level and many rivers at a low level of time of the year, it may turn into a difficult summer of drought and destruction of our rivers and soles. The repetition of 2022 is unimaginable.”

“The last two years were one of the most record numbers for England, but the drought conditions at the beginning of this year mean that drought is a possibility and we need to be prepared,” said Richard Thompson, Deputy Director of Water for the Environment.

“It is encouraging to see more people who are looking to reduce their use of water and expect that water companies will do more to reduce the leakage and put smart meters.”
